Procrastination :- blessing or curse

Recently i read on tweet of ‘Grand snider’, which was written as follows – ‘i can’t decide if procrastination kills creativity or is essential for it’

I thought to describe my views on this tweet.

I believe that we all procrastinate, and it is essential for us because we come to know that what is essential for us and what is not. We can plan ourself about which work is more important and should be done earlier.

However it is said that Everything in excess is harmful. So excessive procrastination is also harmful because we delay those things which are most important, however less interesting ; over those things which are less important but very interesting.

In a study of academic procrastination from the University of Vermont, published in 1984, 46% of the subjects reported that they “always” or “nearly always” procrastinate writing papers, while approximately 30% reported procrastinating studying for exams and reading weekly assignments (27.6 l.percent by and 30.1 percent respectively). Nearly a quarter of the subjects reported that procrastination was a problem for them, regarding the same tasks. However, as many as 65% indicated that they would like to reduce their procrastination when writing papers and approximately 62 percent indicated the same for studying for exams and 55% for reading weekly assignments.

A 1992 study showed that “52 [percent] of surveyed students indicated having a moderate to high need for help concerning procrastination.” It is estimated that 80–95 percent of college students engage in procrastination, and approximately 75 percent consider themselves procrastinators.

In a study performed on university students, procrastination was shown to be greater on tasks that were perceived as unpleasant or as impositions than on tasks for which the student believed he or she lacked the required skills for accomplishing the task.

After reading all those research stuffs, i really feels that if we procrastinate in excess, like procrastinate very important works, then we are just making ourself less efficient. This is making us less responsive and productive.

So in conclusion, procrastination is important at very little extent. Largely we should procrastinate less and follow what we had planned. Planning made after considering all the dynamic and non-dynamic factors, is complete in itself. After that, we should not consider delaying tasks because it will later lead to gilt and anxiety that we can do much better if followed the plans.

‘So planning is better option than procrastination’
